South Carolina Backcountry Militiaman - this 100mm figure was recently produced by Mike Stelzel, modified with a replacement Verlinden head, with new hair added with Kneadatite epoxy putty. This figure depicts the scruffy militia from the western part of SC, that fought a bitter civil war against Tory militia and British regulars. This piece was painted in preparation for the Artist Preservation Group’s exhibition at the Museum of the American Revolution, in Philadelphia, on June 18-19. Painted in oils and acrylics. A few minor touches before it is completed.

Thanks, Nap,
The color palette that I selected was intended to reflect the rough life on the frontier of western South Carolina at that time. That territory bordered the Appalachian Mountains and Cherokee Indian lands, and life was hard. Many of the settlers in this area were Scots Irish immigrants, and were tough individuals who had little regard for the Crown. They were accustomed to frontier warfare with the Cherokee, and wouldn’t back away from a fight.

Cheers,
Kurt
