Hi Mirosoft ,

I remember this set , I believe it was New Hope Design ..many moons ago , it was a nice if gruesome set if I am right .

The kits were in plastic bags with a gray fold over top in card (the logo was a Boer War Trumpeter)

Hi Mirosoft ,

No problem , that was the picture I had but I am not sure if its the NHD set it looks more modern 2Toy Soldier" , I thought there was only about 5 figures in it plus scaffold in the NHD one .

If you want a bigger scale there was a plastic one even earlier done I think by Aurora about 120mm in todays scales ..but it is hard to find as well .

Gentlemen,

The original Aurora Guillotine, if memory serves, was released in 1964. The scale at that time was purported to be 1/15th (~120mm, as noted by Nap). While it was to have been the first of a series of torture devices (Rack, Gallows, Electric Chair, etc.), the parental outcry at the time "beheaded" this promising series: the Guillotine was produced for no more than a year.

The original Aurora release can indeed be difficult to find--and pricey!--having risen to collectible status, and arguably rightfully so. BUT, fast forwarding to the present, the model has been recently rereleased by Polar Lights (PL), and is readily available in US hobby shops for about US$20.00. The PL version claims to be executed in 1/18th scale (~90mm): I am not sure if this was the actual scale, or if PL went ever so slightly smaller in their release.

In any case, I have not seen the re-release "in the plastic", but there have been certain enhancements made that make this as desirable now as it was then--if not more so.

Hope this is of some use.

Best,

Augie

BRAVO, Janne. That looks GREAT!! Is it all scribed plastic, or did you replace some of the plastic with wood? WELL DONE!

Augie

Thank YOU, Janne! As I said. . . a treat!

Yes, there are. I remember when this first came out, scrambling for nickels and dimes--and discarded bottles to cash in on the deposit! When it was first released here in the States, it was but US$0.98--as were many (all?) of the "long-box" Aurora monsters. Good times!

As yourself, I weighted the blade; but the idea of filling the body with red-coloured water is genius! (y)

Thanks again!

Augie
