Hello everybody,
I have a new figure that came out on sale this September and I wish to hang here the work-in-progress that I made. The subject is a Spartan made at 75mm scale and the company that sales it has the name inspired by the size and I mean : Scale 75. The figure is inspired by the movie “300” concerning the posture. The weaponry and uniform is not quite like in the movies, but it has sense anyway and I think that anyone can recognize at the end of the WIP a Spartan warrior in this figure. Here is the first step:

I hope you enjoy it. See you soon,
Paul

Absolutley a cool figure. I love the action poses of scale75. I wonder who did the crusader? That would be another good WIP to see. I sure hope scale75 keeps it up with these aesome poses.

Hello,
Here is the cape and the helmet but they're just as sketches.
I have to specify that the figure is a new release of the company Scale75 for this month - October . See you soon

Thanks again for sharing Paul, see these kinds of progress shots really help sculptors studying the work-flow.

That's quite an engineering feat for casting such a cape! (y)

Absolutely fantastic work so far!!!
It's a shame to hide the awesome anatomy work
under the manteau...

the sculpting is simply fantastic, I love the anatomy detail work especially, crisp work and gorgeous shapes

i do find the pose a little awkward though, there's implication of power, but that pose is not easy to hold(weight all on one hip), and impractical for offense(stance is too wide), Im assuming its as if he was knocked back and hes currently in a defensive pose, preparing to counter attack?

It looks like there should be weight being applied against his shield right now, but the cape suggests he is the one attacking(its flowing behind him, not infront)

I'd interpret the sword arm cocked back applying motion to the cape, the shield arm appropriately conveys weight of the shield and defense -

The widened stance and hip weight, gives the piece poise and dramatics!

Wonder if there is another figure on the bench to go with this one given the stance! Would be a neat vignete.

the sword arm could likely thrust the cape back, however it would force the top of the cape to move leaving the bottom flowing from front(shield side) to back(his sword arm) however the cape is flowing the opposite, implying downward force(a duck and dodge) which is defensive

The widened stance is a reactionary stance, its not a position youd "like" to be in, because its not powerful, and its basically putting you back on your heels

It would be a stronger stance if his knee was outward with the torso twisted, or inward with less torso twist

I have a sort of rule ive created:

-head shows direction of goal
-chest shows current direction
-hip angle determine amount of power in said movement

It really helps pose a person :)

Thank you Paul for creating this wonderful picture to our company. We want to thank you and congratulations for this great work publicly.

That depends on the previous act of motion, inverse kinematics on the wearers right hem would react just as depicted on a recoiled motion of the sword arm. Depicted I see a convergance of motion past and present of both the previous and new act of motion on the cape.

I'd disagree, exaggerated yes, it's a batters stance, chest facing right knee recoiled for a lunging slash, the subject is "stepping into it"

Great rules, but there's always exceptions ;)

I like thought provoking discussions so Ill continue!

the biggest difference is the back knee being turned inwards, it causes the pose to be very uncomfortable, less powerful, and awkward (my knee is actually sore!)

the batter has more stability, the weight being more supported, hips under his whole body(weight over hips) not leaning too far over his hips, both feet facing same direction(more stable) and so on
