Hi everybody,

I've started this sculpt 2 days ago, and I'm really pleased with it. This is the first time I've sculpted a face in a larger scale than 38 mm. Not that I've sculpted many faces in 38 mm, I think I've done 3.

I Normally use greenstuff and milliput to convert warhammer figures, so this was a good practise for me.

Now my question is, how can I improve? I think the face is pretty natural, but it still looks a bit strange IMHO. I've seen all those fantastic sculptors here on this site, so I'm sure you guys can help me improve.

Thanks in advance :),

Btw, I've seen people sculpting with some sort of pencil with a rubber tip, does anyone know how this tool is called, and is it handy to sculpt with?

personally , i would recomend a bit of drawing practice to help with proportional advancements. my theory is, if you can draw it, you can sculpt it!
i have also used(and use) the tools you describe ans most good art shops sell them.
may i recommend a couple of good books too;- 'how to draw marvel comics' by stan lee and 'how to sculpt life like figures iin polymer clay' by the very talented Katherine Dewey.

happy new year to all! ;)

Hi Glenn,

Your sculpting is great.
I have just started this kind of sculpting myself so I am hardly an expert, but I believe that the ”strange look” you mentioned is due to the top of the head being a bit smaller than the lower. Either the eyes are a bit too high or the jaw is a bit too width. I have taken the liberty and made the top of the head a bit larger in Photoshop., the red line indicates the original size.
IMHO this makes the head look more natural and it is an easy fix.
Hope this helps, keep up the good work!

regards,

Luka
