Hello guys,
In a letter to Henry, Third Earl Bathurst, from Huarte Spain, on July 2nd, 1813, Wellington wrote, “It is quite impossible for me or any other man to command a British Army under the existing system. We have in the service the scum of the earth as common soldiers.”
Here are few photos depicting a British soldier during a campaign in in Spain. This one was painted by Kirill Kanaev.
I hope that you like his version of this poorly paid, exhausted and short on supplies, but still an excellent fighter.
Regards,
Alex
