Hi to all
Hope your safe and well
Following on from the announcement from Altores about the release as here :
https://www.planetfigure.com/posts/1027338/
I am going to take a look in the box at this release
Depicting perhaps a member of a pirate crew from the heyday ......heavily adorned in necklaces and hanging discs/coins wearing a large hat
A pipe smoking female . maybe the captains favourite from a slave plantation , now living the highlife on the seven seas but despite this her obvious charms are evident
The bust is of course this
Details of the release:
Details of the release:
Title: Sea Storm
Reference: B - 142
Scale: 1/9th
Material: Lt Gray resin
No of parts: 4
Sculptor: Alexander Deryabin (PF member Zippo)
Box Art: N/A
The release has been sculpted using one of the pieces ( in the middle of this picture ) from the Altores Academic set of 3 heads
Another release was reviewed using a head from the same set here:
https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/french-musketeer-from-altores-studio.191920/
Just goes to show how useful the set is ( in the UK its available from El Greco Miniatures)
As usual the packaging is very good , no box artwork but this has since been done which I will share later from the artist
Packed between foam and all pieces in resealable bags and a paper slip over covering
Parts consist of main torso, hat, pipe and earring
Prep
With just 4 parts this will be minimal with just casting posts to take off from the underside of the torso and a slight "blip" of resin on the neck , on the hat there are 2 casting post to take off , the pipe and the earring have one on each and then needs to be fitted
I would suggest that you leave off the hat till last
General comments
Torso
On holding up and looking closely you can see the skill of the sculptor and indeed the casting
She wears a head scarf , tied at the back , the head is shaped to fit nicely into the hat itself
There is a chain of coins all well shaped and joined by links , each well depicted , maybe these are good luck charms of value ...this chain gives her a almost gypsy look about her

Under the headscarf and pulled towards the back is a mass of tightly packed hair , nice texture work with the headwear ends sitting hanging over a touch
Onto the face , very good features , a wide nose and full lips , the eyes themselves rea well shaped and easy to get into to paint
Leading from her nose left ear , linking on to her left nostril there is a single chain with a single coin in the middle
The neck is slender and long with some nice surface definition , leading nicely down to her uppper torso we have a fine triple necklace of coins or maybe pearl rounds .....same high quality is seen in the work
Her ample female charms are held in by a bodice with a material upper , all with really good folds and creases
Across the chest there is a strap leading no doubt to a sword or similar
On the belt the buckle is large and ornate
Under thsi there is the coat .....falling over her body nicely , with lacework on the button holes and these are well defined as are the large buttons
Running up to the collar of particular note is the undercuts on the collar with it sitting high and falling back to the shoulders
Lacework edging runs along all edges with the collar being shaped at the rear
On the rear of the bust...there is a large skull and cross bones ..the image often seen on pirates flags ...again on this the casting is very good

Hat
A very large piece and a very well done sculpt and casting the thing to note is the thickness of the brim ...really similar size all the way round
Turned up at the front allowing full view of the face when its fitted onto the head
Around the brim a cloth is worn , tied in a knot at the rear , sitting on the hat with frayed ends
There is a small tunnel to fit the pipe through and yes it fits easily ...all the way through
On the underside a fitment post which matches the cutout in the head itself

Pipe and Earring
A long pipe which as said fits easily into the hat itself
The earring is flattend in style , again easy to fit to the right ear , some may wish to replace this with a wire version
Final thoughts
A good addition to the Altores catalogue , plenty to paint , skin colour ,lacework , texture , casting is very sharply done and presentation is very good indeed
A good display piece

General comments
- Resin is very smooth
- Casting is very good ( which you will see in the pictures )
- No base is included but a hole has been helpfully included to allow drilling and fitting of a post ( brass ?)
