Hi all,

This is the begin of my new project. This is based on "1st New York Regiment of Continental Line (1780)" figure of ELITE Miniaturas modelled by Cannone.

This is an incredible 70mm figure. A must have.

But in this case I wish to do some minor changes. I prefer to do another regiment: Second Maryland Regiment of Continental Infantry (1777) based in the next pic

The main conversion is related with cutting the trousers and doing the sockets and bottons.

Rafa,

Please be careful when using the uniform plates of Charles Lefferts as a primary source of reference for Revolutionary War uniforms. His book was originally published around 1926, and though it was probably a ground breaking book, a lot of the material both illustrated and written are a bit dated.

2nd Regiment Maryland Regiment of 1777-80

Three deserters in blue coats faced with scarlet and blue waistcoats and breeches were mentioned in the May 29, 1777 Maryland Gazette.

Two deserters, one in a brown coat faced with buff and another in a blue coat faced with white were mentioned in the July 24, 17777 Maryland Gazette

What was interesting about this Regiment is that it was made up of several Independent Companies, no doubt all uniformed differently.

Your conversion looks fine thus far. If I could make a suggestion I would reove the buttons on the gaiters and lower the gaiter so more stocking is showing, and scratchbuild the remaing buttons as the ones on the figure look a bit too far apart.~Gary

Rafa,

Here is a little more information you may find useful. The following illustration was taken from Uniforms of the American Revolution By John Mollo and Malcolm McGregor shows Maryland troops. A number of the figures in this book were taken from deserter descriptions. There are several descriptions that show a variety of regimental coats being worn by a single regiment.

Figures left to right,

1st Maryland Regiment, 1777 Blue coat faced with red, one deserter wore a light infantry cap with the letters B.L.I. in cypher in front, these letters are thought to have stood for Baltimore light Infantry. Deserter description, Maryland Journal, December 17777

2nd Maryland Regiment, 1777 Uniform described in above posting. the figure has a red epaulet showing his rank as Sergeant.

6th Maryland Regiment Several deserters in 1777 are described as wearing brown or gray coats with green facings.

Enjoy.~Gary

Gary,

Thanks a lot for your comments. If I understood I must lower the gaiter and rebuild the buttons. I have a question about the number of buttons: Will be the same number (6) or it change?

Gary, Please Could you send me the image with more resolution?
I attach another little conversion for your comment.

Thanks a lot.

Regards,

Rafa

Rafa, Here is a drawing of a tricorn hat. You'll notice the three groups of two laces that hold up the sides of the hat are either vertical l l or slightly diagonal, forming a very narrow V , like so, \ /. I hope this is of help.~Gary

Gary,
Again you gave me a very good help. Thanks a lot.
Today I began to lower the gaiters.

Rafa

Rafa, creo que la foto desmerece, porque tira un poco a amarillo y no se puede aventurar a realizar ningún comentario.
Un saludo

Jaime,

Tienes razón. Adjunto otra imagen (I attach another pic)

Finally I decided to paint the figure like the 2nd Maryland regiment that Gary sent me. This is: blue jacket with red details and brown waitscoat.
Please, let me know your comments about the results.

regards,

Rafa

Jaime,

Rafa

Rafael, your figure is turning out great, I particularly like the way you painted the brown vest.

Keep[ up the good work.

ciao.

Roc.
