Sepoy's "sundial Hat"

Hi guys,
just wondering if anyone out there has any pics of the actual "sundial hat", other than period artwork? I can fathom out the uniform but the headwear is causing concern! how was it worn, what held it in place and it can't possibly look like the pictures!!
