Hi Folks,

I have finally completed this one. Ive had a bit of chasing around with this, but Im calling it done, now. Depicts a sergeant of the Artist's Rifles 1899, a volunteer rifle regiment formed around 1860.

Converted from MMMs Bourne head, new torso sculpted, much reshaping on the helmet, badges from Duro, fusewire chinscales and whistle chain, buttons from tiny brass rivets, painted in acrylics.

I am planning a companion bust to go with this in the future, a Staffs Rifle Volunteers, in the earlier kepi, with fearsome facial hair....

Thanks for looking,

Steve(y)

Thanks guys - its something Ive wanted to do for a while. Originally, I wanted to do a full figure, maybe that will come in time too? (after all the other projects!)(y)

Thanks Rob! The helmet spike is a piece of plastic rod, drilled and fitted into the helmet. I then built it up with Duro, slightly oversize, then once cured, I sanded it to shape with coarse wet n dry paper, to the desired cruciform shape. I filed in the flutes with a round needle file.

Proper modelling Steve, a first class job.

The rifle volunteer gets little attention methinks, but it was the embryonic influence for the later territorial force.

Can you imagine having to buy your own uniform now and parading twice a day before and after work ?

Looking forward to more of these mate.

Paul.
