I originally painted this figure as a commission in the 70's when it first came out, but could never afford to buy one for myself. The money I was paid went on frivolous things like rent, food and I think a couple of kids I had at the time. Just got this one on Ebay and Franz Doring.jpg here he is prepped and undercoated. The last one I think I painted in Pelican Placca but it may have been in Humbrol enamels (well it is probably 40 years ago)

One of my favorites in my collection. I converted mine so the left arm and hand is holding a flag. Looking forward to seeing your version come alive.

Great to see you've got straight into this one Ken, I'm looking forward to following your progress on this one.
The one I picked up recently, seems to be a bit of a challenge just on a dry fit attempt, how well did yours go together Ken?

I have this one and the other 2 - 154mm Series 77 did along with the 3 Nibletts 175mm figures - GOD are those heavy - can use them as door stops but, oh the GOOD old days!! Dave

Mark, having been working with resin I had forgotten how difficult and cumbersome these big metal beasts are. An awful lot of flashing to remove and not convinced I have got rid of it all. Lots of filling of joints as well. Considering its age the detailing is fairly crisp but I would love to see this remastered in resin. I have started painting the stockings and immediately found the deliberate mistake which is they engraved an odd number of stripes on the right leg which had to be reworked. I should have remembered that from the last time (but its may age, you know)

By the way, any of you avid nostalgia collectors who has the Series 77 vignette "and all for the Kings shilling" and are prepared to part with it for a reasonable sum, please let me know.

I also managed to get my hands on one of these recently, could not afford it when it first came out. Will watch your progress with interest on this one and hopefully be inspired to make a start on mine.

Cheers David

Yes it's a well known eBay seller in the US, always lot of serie 77
But check 1) sending cost and 2) import duties
and I still have Doring and Guilbart in my grey army . + the vignette And so on the road of Rome... perhaps one day ...

I also have a couple of original Tamiya figures that were originally metal as well, if your interested!
Chris

Chris, the only Series 77 I am really after is the vignette called 'All for the Kings shilling'. It is a woman giving a wounded soldier a piggy back with a child walking alongside carrying his musket. If you have that one I would be interested.

Painted it, once, for a friend, end or the 70ies . It was a real pleasure .

Ok well if anyone knows of anybody who likes and or wants series 77 figures give me a shout!
