just a newbie question , shading and highlighting more commonly done with the same type of round brush that is used with base painting ? i use a flat brush for my washes , i wanted to get some opinions . thanks much jimmy

Rounds for shading
Hi, others may add (or even correct me completely) to what I put here....
Many painters only use rounds.
The advantages of rounds for shading & highlighting is the degree of control with a fine tip. Shading & highlighting is one of those things that a finer degree of control is best achieved with the brush to match.
While it may sound obvious in hindsight, when I was first on, I asked questions like this, and was encouraged to ask, as there were no dumb or obvious questions.....

As Jamie said, round brushes tend to give better control over the flow of paint when shading and highlighting. Flat brushes are better for dry brushing and applying washes.
