Hi guys.

Please, what is the best option shading the white color ?.... with greys, blue-greys.....browns?

and....what is your favourite base color when you go to paint in white ?

Thanks for your help.

Regards

Miguel.

Hi Miguel, I find that it depends on what I want the finished piece to look like influences the shading of the white. Sometimes I use grey and it gives a cooler tone to the piece and browns tend to give a warmer effect. The type of material would affect my choice too, linens I would tend to shade in browns and materials with a little more of a sheen I tend to shade with grey tones. I think it mainly comes down to preference and the feel of the piece.
If you need a good SBS on whites check out Fernando Ruiz's Cossack thread
http://www.planetfigure.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38386&page=4 if you haven't already.

Hope I've helped a little,
Andrew.

Have you tried these paints? Not bad at all for a starter set for white. You can do as Fernando has done and introduce new colors along the way but this will give you a very good starting point.

Thank you so much Andrew. Of course, your opinion help me a lot. Ok I take note about your comments. I am working with a german soldier, into the winter campaign. I am using cold colors in this work, the base color is AV Deck Tan + Deco-Art Neutral Grey, shading with Greys and Highten with Flesh + Ivory + White.

But I need to practice more.....Maybe the Jim's advice is a good idea. I will read the Fernando's post about this. Thanks for your help. I appreciate a lot.

Regards

Miguel.

This is partly a matter of taste Miguel, although in terms of realism you should often aim for the shadows to be neutral greys. Other people prefer something more brownish, others like their shadows to be noticeably blue.

Depends a bit, sometimes I paint from a white or near-white basecoat, basically just applying the shadows and then some final highlights. Other times I'll work from a light/medium grey or beige.

Thanks Einion, for your explanation.
OK, I will try to do it. Painting in white is not easy, maybe it is more difficult than painting in black. Normally my main problem is to get thin layers of paint on the model.Even during the primer session with airbrush, I don´t usually get it.
For the primer colour, I will try with Mr-Color paints with a Flat coat. I don´t have any control with the Tamiya Sprays yet.
Thanks for your help.

Miguel.

Thanks Rodrigo.
Do you use Sepia color for base color or for the primer coat painting in white ? What type of paint enamel or acrylic?
Thanks for your help.

Hello Miguel, que tal?

Actually I used for shading with Oils, I think that Sepia color is a good mix between Black and Grey.

Saludos

Thanks Rodrigo.

Muchas gracias RodrigoOk, It is a good option. I take note too. I normally use acrylic mediums for painting figures, but I have to be honest stating that the results painting with oils are wonderful. Maybe one day....
Thanks Rodrigo.
Keep informed to me about your workshop, please.
