Hi Guys,

That is it I have had enough of packing and....... "I still haven't found what I was looking for" .....hey hang on thats a line from a U2 song and what have we here from Shamrock Miniatures ......a characterised sculpt of the man himself ....Mr Paul David "Bono" Hewson.

B.jpg Shamrock Miniatures.jpgBono.jpg

Lets have a little bit of this often controversial mans story :

Paul was born on may 10th 1960 and had an often sad upbringing , at times admitting not getting on with his father who was in his words loking for dissapointment in his son ....always influenced by music in one way or another even going to St Patricks Cathedral Choir School ...this he hated and left after throwing something rather smelly at a teacher.

The most tragic thing in his life was when he was 14 when his mothr died at the funeral of her father with Pauls home life after this being traumatic to say the least

It was not long after his mother's death that Paul also got his new name.

Originally 'Steinhegvanhuysenolegbangbangbang,' it evolved to 'Bonavox of O'Connell Street' after a hearing aid store in the centre of Dublin!!! ..........

Before eventually being shortened to 'Bonavox,' 'Bono Vox' – cockeyed Latin for 'good voice' – and finally 'Bono.

As lead singer in the band U2 he has produced so many classic songs amongst my favourites include "Where the streets have no name" and of course "One" ...songs that I grew up on and still feature within originally my LP collection(remember those!!!!) and now my CD collection as well .

He has been particularly aware of poverty issues worldwide working with amany other performers on Live Aid being politically active particularly in the 1990's

In 2006, Bobby Shriver and Bono co-founded the Product (RED) campaign. This initiative seeks to persuade large companies with global brands to sell specific lines of products from which a portion of the profits will be donated to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and malaria.

As well as illustrating Bono's staggering amount of energy and commitment, these initiatives have earned Bono numerous honours and awards.

He was presented with the Free Your Mind Award at the MTV Europe Awards in Dublin, in acknowledgement of his work on behalf of the Jubilee 2000 project; he received a knighthood in Britain, the Légion d'honneur in France, and at least two nominations on separate occasions for the Nobel Peace Prize. He has also had various degrees bestowed on him from some of the world's top universities, and has sat as the editor for the publications Vanity Fair (USA) and the Independent newspaper (UK).

Irrespective of your musical tastes he is a masive influence on whatever he does .

As with the website when opening the box you get a warm welcome or Fáilte Isteach , what is the product received in , a very strong postal type tube , especially bought in for the release , with a very secure white plastic top and bottom insert.

Before opening the tube I was again impressed by the quality and care taken by Shamrock on the packing and presentation , great colour presentaion ...in green well it would be as green is the colour for all the releases .

Opening the tube up you see that we have 2 pieces the main sculpt and some rather fetching sunglasses , both are secured in a plastic bag as well , also include was asmall insert with the edition number of 100 ...mine was No 10 .
B1.jpg
Looking at the main piece the chunk of resin , prep needed was nothing the piece being immaculately cleaned prior to dispatch , all sides are extremely smooth ...nice touch Shamrock.

As said the piece is a charcterisation piece of Bono , starting at the top the hair is swept back with the detailing of the strands being well dne as expected from a sculptor of Mikes level .

B2.jpg

The high forehead is of course exagerated as is the nose and the chin , bono is often seen unshaven and that what we have here ...wonderful stubble on the chin and radiating frm the sides ....great painting challenge , ears are nicely done again slightly excessive in form and with earrings as well these and all the features marry up with the overall piece so well .
B3.jpgB2.jpgB4.jpg B5.jpg
The eyes are spot on with lines radiating from the sides and below .....a sign of maturity I like to think !!!
B6.jpg

The mouth area is a gem and he is smirking so wonderfully , great details on the lips as well

His voice box is pronounced as well and he wears a jacket ..leather perhaps as in pictures , the neck and throat is adorned by a necklace as well ...go wild make the beads colourful ..perhaps he got it when in Africa ?? .

Under his jacket he has a T shirt .......and what I love is peeking out of the top of this ....chest hair ...this is done so well it almost needs shaving!!!! ....I Love it .B7.jpg

On now to the glasses , these are tinted slightly pinky red on my version you could of course tint them black or indeed any colour you wish ....me I like pink .and you need no prep whatsoever just need fitting to the piece .

B8.jpg

So what will you have in your display cabinet ...a very nicely sculpted piece full of chaaracterisation and fine details , well presented and at a bargain price as well .

Thanks to Shamrock for the review model ..........

here's to the next one in this series ...perhaps a companion piece for Bono what about "TheEdge" or maybe Phil Lynot or Sinead O'Connor ..over to you Shamrock ....

Overall thoughts : Well sculpted and presented and a FUN ....FUN piece to work on

The man himself a pretentious poseur extraordinaire who I have very little time for - but that's a great caricature!

Now when shamrock bring one out of Rory Gallagher ill be a happy man! but The sculpt of Bono's fun! and very well done! Ears are a bit funny? but adds to the piece, Bono's a bit of a price prat so to set him up like this is 'Artfull' cant think of a word to use but you get the drift!

What an absolute waste of resin, as well as a cardboard tube and Styrofoam pellets......
Barry ,

Quite a statement , everone is entitled to an opinion why this from you is it the subject or does it just not appeal to you ...modelling is full of different things all are fun in one way or another .

I am sure we would all be interested in your thoughts

PS : No Styrofoam pellets were used !!!!

Interesting comment; as Nap said is it the subject matter or the model you don't like?

I think it is a really fun piece which may be down to the fact that I am not a huge fan of the subject
