Hello Guys,

I will go next April to NY, and I would like to visit some military miniatures shop, or toys soldiers shop, or military books shop. Some american friend cant help me and say me adresses?.

Thanks

Luis, if you are going to New York City, you are out of luck.

There used to be a toy/collectibles shop in Greenwich Village that had some figures, but it closed a couple of months ago. There was also a bookstore on the Upper East Side that specialized in military titles, but it closed after the owner died. And there are no hobby shops worth your time.

That said, there are things to do. You might visit the USS Intrepid aircraft carrier. I also recommend going to any of awesome art museums in the city. The inspiration is worth the price of admission. Also, spend some time at The Strand bookstore at the corner of 12th Street and Broadway. This location has a huge selection of military and history titles, so you're sure to find something of interest.

I work in the city, so if you need any advice or further information, let me know.

I should also add that you could take the train or drive to Sentinel Miniatures in West Chester (north of New York City). Neal has a nice selection of figures.

Saludos

Dear friend,
I used to leave in NY and as they already told you, there are not interesting shops in the city. But taking the train to Mineola, Long Island 20 min from the Penn Station you'll find a little town with four or five shops for modelers. One of them, Willy's Hobbies has been opened fifty years ago and it's singolar for our european point of view, specialized in train it's a three floor building store with train running over your head and a basement where they play with radio racing cars. A piece of history in the modelling hobby. I believe it's worthy to spend a morning on Mineola, another shop it's just next to the station (specialized in dioramas) and other two on the way to Willy's Hobbies. If you need any further information I can even make you a map of that town. Ciao amigo.

At the risk of disagreeing with my friend Steve, I submit the following personal list of places of amusement aquired during years of having to keep myself busy while my wife and daughters went shopping. No hard core figure or modeling places, but a fun way to kill some time. Forbes Collection is a MUST!!

Pat, those are news to me. I'll have to check them out. I didn't know Polks was still in business.

There's also a little hobby shop on 45th Street, but it's really not worth it.

Checking this recommendations of fellow planeteenrs(I hope this is the right spelling ;) ), we should start a FIgure and Modelling Tourist guide,

Happy to help

Eduardo

Polk's certainly isn't what it used to be in the good old days, and I have not been there in a couple of years, but as far as I know it still lives. Hopefully the phone numbers will let you call ahead and determine store hours, etc. My "bored in NYC" days (I know, HOW can you be bored in NYC??) are gone now, but I still try to hit these places when I'm in the area. Have fun guys!
