Siege of Badajoz Richard Caton Woodville Shadowbox diorama

Richard Caton Woodville did a bw illustration of the Siege of Badajoz (The Devil's Own), based on the 88th Regt Connaught Rangers. This picture was later colorised and I based my piece on these two pictures.

Shakos and other details are not quite correct but I'm following the painting. I wanted to create a dim light effect as it was a dawn raid. Various sizes and scales were used here.

Thanks for yr kind comments. I liked this painting g because it has a lot of frenzied action.

I subsume my sculpting and painting technique solely to the piece at hand. I try to emulate the original painting style of depiction as much as possible. I pt in oils and use both washes and impasto to achieve the end results.
