Hi guys,

Janne's just posted a link to a company called Soldierpac http://www.soldierpac.com/. The range of figures are pretty big but I notcie the manufacturer is listed as Rose. Are these Rose Miniatures figures? Does anyone have any good recommendations from their range?

This company also appears to be linked to Noble Miniatures http://www.nobleminiatures.com/. Again a large range, this time of old figures including Ray Lamb stuff. Does anyone have any good recommendations from their stuff again? I would be looking for figure forms that would be comparable today's standard, not just the casting quality.

These companies appear to have similar concept to the Lost Battalion. The figures seem to be well priced.

Would appreciate if anyone with experience of these companies figures please share them.

Thanks
Basil

I don't think these are the right type of place to look for that Basil, as far as sculpting goes quality has moved on a lot in the past 30-40 years. Some of the best of Phoenix's output isn't bad by today's standards (talking about the sculpting only) although it is a little 'cartoony' often. But then not all of today's stuff is of equal quality either let's be honest!

Thanks for bringing these to my attention; I'd love to pick up some of the Phoenix line for old time's sake. The real question is how good the casts are of course.

I've dealt with soldierpac several times over the last year or so and have nothing but excellent things to say about their service. The casting does require a certain amount of clean-up, but considering they deal in things most of the "big guys" don't and even considering the rate of exchange, the prices are great (one can only hope Andrea and the like are listening), it's worth it.

Thanks for your reply guys. I must say I am concerned some of these figures may look cartoony, but i do find the range and variety quite fascinating.

I'm particularly interested in the range of mounted figures listed under Noble Miniatures. Anyone has any idea how good are these?

Cheers

Rose miniatures 54mm

Hi Basil,

The soldier pac website produces ex-Phoenix figures.

Rose miniatures 54mm figures have been bought over by John Eden, who releases them as painted sets of toy soldiers. He has recently released some of these as unpainted kits.

The sculpting style of the above was reflective of their times. These figures were considered innovative and were market leaders during that period.

Personal standards vary; even going by the small pics on the site though they're not nearly up to scratch IMO. Good cheap 'learner' figs maybe?

Hi all

Agree that the mounted figures aren't up to present standards but neither are their prices! The 90mm figures date from, I think, the early 80's and weren't the best back then. The Ray lamb figures date from the early 70's and were originally produced by Hinchliffe Models. Some are pretty good eg the French drummers but beware some components which are out of scale eg
the shakos on the French voltiguers. The British Napoleonics all tended to suffer from excessively long necks except for the 95th rifleman which is worth checking. Anyone know what happened to the mounted 75mm Indians and Assyrians which Ray Lamb sculpted for Hinchliffe and which were last around in Skytrex's range?

Thanks guys for your replies.

What do you think of the 90mm mounted knights under the Noble range? They are probably not up to Pegaso's standard but they appear from the pics to be closer to El Viejo Dragon or the early Andrea standards. Prices are pretty atrtractive for mounted figures.

Cheers

Holy cow! I must have missed this site! I have been interested in picking up many of the Phoenix accessories at reasonable prices! Chess sets, winged stuffed chairs, books and piano! Oh boy! :)

I won't tell you how much I spent thru ebay on a few of these old pieces.
