This is the latest offering from SGF soldiers, CARTHAGINIAN VETERAN, WITH WAR DOG, 2nd PUNIC WAR, 219-202 BC sculpted by the very talented Adrianno Laruccia. I was very lucky to obtain a special issue pre-release kit a few weeks ago and have only now got round to opening the box.
All parts are packed in several plastic bags sandwiched between a couple of layers of bubble wrap. The kit consists of 16 white metal parts.
As with most of the recent releases from Soldiers the quality of the casting and fitting of the parts is outstanding with minimal to no cleanup required, I had to use a magnifier on some part to try and locate the seam lines.
Here we can see the main torso structure and the three part head arrangement, the parts have been cleaver sculpted for easy painting and excellent fitting.
The head is a good fit inside the helmet and the helmet drops into the lion head with a very snug and secure fit, this is an excellent idea make makes ease of painting a real treat.
The had fits exact to the main torso and no evidence of filler is visible, you can also see the high level of sculpting and casting in the photo.
The bottom part of the lion pelt makes up the back part of the bottom part of the torso, fit is exact.
The two parts of the body fit together very well and drop into the supplied base which holds it all together, it really starts to come together at this point.
Test fitting of the arms shows another great fit with no evidence of any filler needed.
Other parts of the kit shown are the high quality spear, shield, sword & scabbard and the lions paw that hangs from the front of the top part of the torso.
The war dog is cast in three separate parts with the same high quality as the main figure, there is a nice small loop on the collar of the dog for attaching the leash on the right hand of the figure.
Another first rate offering from SGF Soldiers, very high quality casting with good level of detail and minimal clean up, highly recommended for anyone interested in the Roman era.
Cheers
