All,

Just wanted to break in with some news about some upcoming additions and changes.

vBenches:
The start of the vBench system has taken off faster than imagined and quite a popular asset to the community at large and, in my opinion, the planet sites' signature feature. Due to its popularity, the vBench has come to a crossroads with convenience from an admins point of view and the member’s point of view. Notably, is the current forums software's limitations and administration that has been the slowness of vBench setups, those who requested them do not despair :) it may be a little longer than the 48 hour time frame. Another vBench issue is its' display, one look at the forums' main page you wouldn't imagine the wealth of info deep within the posts, I'd like to get that content forefront in center and more navigatable. With that said I'm exploring some options to revamping the vBench system and the payoff I envision will be worth it.

Gallery:
You may have noticed the gallery link near the top of the page that is a new initiative by common request. We're gathering it up slowly and will continue to add to it, as with most planet sites features we are trying to make it as self-serving as possible, having you the member feel more a playing part of the planet sites and its' content and contributions.

Articles:
Another new initiative we want to explore is the scavenging of old vBench SBS and converting them to articles. Based on completeness (a start and end of a project) and content I'll take, strip it of the non-authors replies and lay it out in a more readable manner. The orignial vBench thread will remain. This is serving many purposes: easier to present, categorize, printable and more. In addition, there are members who link to images and if the image linked to, for whatever reason, is moved/lost the thread is broken. There is a wealth of great material in the vBenches and it would be a way of saving and securing those assets.

So, with seemingly neverending evolution, please beg our pardon for any inconveniences in the near future. 2005 has already started out with a bang with many new faces and great talent and artwork, look forward to great new additions. pF’s growing by leaps and bounds and the membership is diverse (as evidence of the occasional time-outs!) A final thanks to all the members for making pF the place it is and a constant source of inspiration, and a round of thanks to the staff for their tireless efforts and involvment.

PS, Lou I fixed the “e” to “o” ;)

Thanks for the notice Gordy. This has been on my mind lately and seems as good of a time as any to mention it. This site is the latest in many manifestations of such sites that I can remember, mmhq and HMForum having gone before. Planetfigure is everything those sites ever aspired to be and more. In the early days I wondered how long this site would last. The moderation and administration of this site have been the key to it's success. Most threads are allowed to continue without intervention. Intervention, when used has been appropriate and not heavy-handed. This was a problem with HMForum. Upgrades and maintenance continue with little inconvenience to the users. This was the problem with mmhq. It sounds like what's in store is going to be worth the wait. Thanks for your effort and initiative in creating the best figure forum on the net.

Gordy,
You and your staff ROCK!

You continually say that the success of the planet is its members, I for one believe the real root of success for the planet is everything you, Guy, Anders and Roc do behind the scenes. You deserve a lot more credit than you are taking Gordy.

I can't tell you all what a difference this site makes to a solitary art like ours...Its amazing what you all do to help us share our passion...

Very, very well done my friend.

All the best

Patrick

This site has evolved because of the involvment and contribution's of the staff and membership, and it's good to see you're stilling looking at developing the site further still.

the developments sound exciting, especially the idea of old SBS's as articles (something I've toyed with myself for my personal use). I am curious as to how the vBenchs will develop.

And I totally agree with John. This place continues to be my first port of call on my internet "rounds", and I love the variety of things submitted here.

Well done to you guys behind the scenes! (y)

(y) (y) to Gordy,Guy,Anders,Roc and all the guys on the "planet" ! Looking forward to the new changes in the site, especially the vBench. Cheers !
Kenneth

Thanks to Gordy,Guy,Anders,Roc and all the guys on the "planet" ! I like the figures more than AFV. My shelf's are stock with AFV's but never touched an AFV since i discovered the planet.
Now i"am giving away to boys my AFV. Buying " almost "every figure that i liked.
Two weeks ago i get a vBench, and guess what. I'am have already get some tips for painting, that i never had before.

Beside that, on great shows there are some meetings from pF members. Look at Euromilitaire 2004 and what is happen now for other shows.
It is not only a Internetcommunity, now it is more then that. It is a way of live ;)

Therefore administrators my thanks to all of you.

Marc.

Don't feel bad Gordy. Took me three days of "that doesn't look right" and then a spellchecker before I said anything. Detracted (see, my edit was changing "distracted" to "detracted")from the value of the site if you must know ;)

This is by far the most useful site out there and much better than it's predecessors as well. Kudos to the staff for being good firemen too!
