While I continue to work on my Athenian figure, I thought I'd post a few pictures of the Spartan bust I finished a few months ago. I've seen a lot of other spartan busts on here, but not much of the Young Miniatures one.

This is the second bust I've painted and my first experiment into giving armor a weathered look. I used metallic bronze and mixed it with black, dark brown, and buff (though not all at once). I then covered the armor with a gloss finished. Finally, I painted the blood splatters using a mix of flat reds and black.

The red cloak has a bit of a shine despite my using flat paints and going over it with a flat finish (I would love to get rid of this shine if anyone has a suggestion...) so it is a little difficult to see the mud and dirt on the cloak. I wanted to make the cloak dirty as the Spartans were known to wear the same cloak all year long and never wash it. From my understanding this was to prove their toughness.

This is great, and the bronze is particularly impressive. Testor's Dullcoat is still the best shine killer that I know.
