I have seen these books at Histoire&Collections bookstore in Paris. Some of the drawings may appear a little naive, but lot of them have never been reproduced before.
Four books are on sale by now, (Cavalery, Foot Imperial Guard, Mounted Imperial Guard, Infantery) , and 2 others are scheduled in September 2004 and April 2005.
From my point of view, they 're really worth buying.
I agree with Bert. The artwork is pretty naive. Don't expect Detaille or even the less impressive artwork from the Osprey titles. However, the detailed paintings of individual pieces of equipment are very useful.
There's one thing I really dislike and that is a poorly illustrated book. I'm guilty of buying some of these as the text itself was valuable. With a decent number of "historical illustrators" doing books today it's a shame that poorly illustrated books are still being done, there are so many that could have been great books but missed the mark by being illustrated with poor or mediocre illustrations.~Gary
Naive is an understatement. Although I agree that the "side pictures" are useful, my 5 year old could have done a better job on the illustrations of the uniforms.
