Hi Gents,
I finally succeeded to finish this vignette with the 2 Castle Vikings. I choose the title referring to the well known TV Show where Spring meant Vikings invasions for the Wessex Kingdom :sneaky:
the raven is my first ever sculpt ...
for some obscure reasons my digital camera never focused correctly on the figures so i had to use my cell phone ... sorry for the pictures quality
but enough talking, here are the pics and don't hesitate to comment and criticize ... i'm on a learning curve and i truely appreciate any insights you can give me (y)

the name plate is made from copper foil and painted freehand with acrylics.

Really good work Franck.
Love the little details in the ground-work like the tree fungi etc. and the raven is great.
The two chaps look to be really well done with a natural finish.
I'd like to know how you built up the forest floor.
Jon

thank you for the nice comments guys :)

Jon : i first placed the 2 resin bases as i wanted for the 2 figs then the tree (with a steel nail keeping it in place in the base)
then i worked the volumes with natural clay. soil was done using grounded coffee mixed with acrylic gel (it gives a perfect dark colour once dried)
after that it was time to sprincle some moss, placed some birch tree seeds as low plants and finally moss on the tree.
some deep green was airbrushed and then i highlited all the various details. finally some mininature grass was place here and there.
fungi and mushrooms : epoxy putty (cheap one from the hardware store) then painted.

i hope this answers your question :)

very nice work and they tell the story very well indeed, the ground work is very well done and I love the fungus on the tree trunk very nice touch. the Raven is a nice touch and well done on your first sculpt. the paining is very well done and looks very natural. over all a good piece of work well done.

cheers

Ian

I love these two figures and you have done a wonderful job in my opinion. Seeing what you have done makes me want to start on mine. Love the coffee idea...............

Great stuff Franck.
you have created a real atmosphere with some delightful detail all around, there's plenty more than just the great figures to make you look closer and closer.
Well done sir.

If you make another pine tree using static grass,
you may wish to make a 'double application'.

After the first layer is dry, if you spray it black then paint it with browns...it can provide a better key for a thicker application in green.

You can also use longer grass (3 or 4mm) for the first layer and then 2mm for the actual green needles.
I look forward to seeing your next project.

Paul.

Nice job all over Franck, I especially like your base and name plate. The raven looks a bit skinny, but that will for sure change when the "campaign" is over :)
Sculpting is not that easy, but I think you did very well.
Good choice of colours on the Vikings, I might buy the 2 of them myself because of your vignette.

Best wishes Brian
