Introduction

Here I present you another of the May Releases from Pegaso Models. Standardbearer for Carlo d´Angiό at 75mm. A fine figure Sculpted by the master Maurizio Bruno and Painted from another master Danilo Cartacci. That's a very interesting kit indeed with a great pose, and in a very good scale, that will satisfy anyone who will purhace it.

Historical Notes

Carlo was one of the younger brothers of King Luigi X of France and during his adventurous life he participated in the 7th Crusade during the years 1248-1254. King Luigi IX of France embarked on his first Crusade in the spring of 1248. He headed a contingent of 30000 men landing the following year in Egypt, at Damietta with the intention of marching on foot to Cairo.

On 8th February 1250, after seiges, armed skirmishes on the River Nile and a deadly pestilence which decimated the King's troops, the Crusade was defeated by the Muslims at the Battle of Al Mansourah.

Carlo was count of d´Angiό, of Maine of Provenza and of Forcalquier. In 1265 he was given the reign of Sicily by the Pope and Carlo made his move to remove the crown from King Manfredi of Swabia, the illegitimate son of the great Frederick II.

Carlo conquered Sicily and was also proclaimed King of Jerusalem in 1277. He wasw ruthless and gready figure and a fierce persecutor of the Ghibelline in Italy who died in southern Italy at Foggia in 1285, whilst his armed forces attempted to re-conquer Sicily that had rebelled against his knights with the revolt of the Sicilian Vespri (1282-1302).

Thanks a lot to Marco Giuliani for his research and text. (Historical Info was taken from Pegasos leaflet inside the kit).

Quality and Detail

As soon as I open the box of the kit I was really surprised from the quality of it. Clean casting, almost none seam lines and lots of detail, will surely make the owner of this kit happy and itchy to start painting this beauty. That's another release from Pegaso that shows why it's the leader company in the scene.

Painting

I believe that we will see a lot of this figure on show tables and of course in many different painting versions. The choices are unlimited. I would consider this figure not greatly hard to paint.. but it needs some skill so the result could satisfy the painter.

Conclusion

In conclusion I have to say that that's a really nice figure offered for any every painter who wishes to try this era and give a different version of a knight.

Finally I would like to Thank again Pegaso Models, Luca Marchetti and Pietro Balloni for providing this kit. :)

I assume you didnt get the pole for the baner either?

The fit between the legs and the torse is a little bit so and so. Its also hard to get the cloth on the helmet to fit tightly. Ive solved this by making one more crease on each side with the filler.

Also I recomend to pin most parts of this figure because it gets heavy. However the break down and assembly is very cunning. ;)

I really like the mail and small details as example the cross on the capeholder.

Cheers

Hi,

I have bought recently this figure and I'm assemblying it, and I must say you're right about the pinning...already did that. And also it is a cunny figure... I'm trying to see which parts are going tobe glued right now, in order be able to do the painting... but It is not easy... don't know how I'm gonna do this. Do you have any tips?

Regards
Pedro
