Hi All

Standardbearer for Charles d´ Angiò

Well this is another one finished which has been sitting on my bench since summer 2007, Another fine Pegaso figure sculpted by my favourite sculptor Maurizio Bruno. I went with the artwork on the box as I liked it very much.

The heraldry was quite a challenge but very enjoyable as was painting all the individual fleur de lys on the flag which was driving me crazy at the best of times. Lovely figure to paint with a great pose. Everything was undercoated in Humbrol enamels and the rest painted in oils

Appologies again for the bad photography, really need to do it in daylight.

Any comments welcome

Cheers
Tommi

Great painting on this one Tommi. Painting this fleur de lys would take me ages, and probably I wouldn't manage. My compliments.

Hi All

Thanks again for your very kind comments, this is one that I thought I would never finish but the inspiration of the work of the members of this site gave me the drive to get it finished. I have to say that it has been one of the most difficult challenge so far but has also been enjoyable.

I am starting a small vignette soon which will have the same process carried out on the heraldry and flags, I will take photos as I go along then post up an SBS process.

The metal on the helmet was polished with fine grade steel wool then washed in a diluted mix of black and burnt umber oils. Once this had dried I stared with a small amount of burnt sienna on the edges of the helm working it with a size brush towards the centre breather holes being careful not to cover the holes with and paint, I then applies burnt umber at the same starting point as the burnt sienna and started feathering out again towards the centre of the helm but not as far as the previous layer, the process is then repeated with lamp black, blending it into the other layers but not taking it all the way out to the centre. The gold parts have been undercoated with a matt varnish then painted with gold printer ink, left to dry then highlighted with burnt umber and lamp black. The chequered cloth was painted in white then small squares painted in red, all had to be painted in oils then highlighted and shaded, very time consuming, need to leave a weekend free for this. Hope this helps.
Maurizio

Hi Paul
Thanks for your great compliment. I always try and put every effort into anything I paint and find it hard going at times after a ten year lay off from painting and sculpting. Just looking at the great standard of work on this site is inspiration to try harder.

Cheers
