I didn't know nothing about it untill I saw the BOS from IPMS Telford show. Then I wanted to know more about it. And I've seen alot of it in some movies, unfortunally I can't remember wich.
But there is alot of potential for the sculpters in it.

It's a fantasy world in which all technology has evolved from the steam machine, and in which society is still "Victorian".
So, an example of a "steam punk" miniature would be an aircraft or a space craft or a moon rocket of which the source of propulsion is a steam engine with a steam boiler.

Personally it reminds me somewhat of the stories by Jules Verne - it's the Future how a Victorian period person would have imagined it.

... Capisce ? ;-)

A company called Industria Mechanika makes Steampunk kits. I have a couple.

Interesting ! thanks gents ! so does it date back to Victorian times ?

Not 100% exact - as I said it's the Future, as it could have been imagined by a person who lived in Victorian times ca. 1880 ;)

If that person would have dreamed up a car or an aircraft for example, it would be driven by a steam engine. Also, people in this future would still be wearing clothes that look like Victorian period clothes. And also, I think the materials used for building an aircraft with a steam engine would be very much the "vintage" materials that were available before the first world war - imagine an aircraft made of wood and fabric, driven by a steam boiler of iron with fittings of brass and bronze for example. There's this "vintage" look about all that Steampunk stuff.

There are also hybrid universes combining steam punk and magic, for example Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura.
They have been around for ages as desktop games and AD&D type game universes.

Golden compass universe is not pure steampunk, but gives an idea too.

I am curious how suddenly its going big in modelling world = its high time for something fresh

How about a steampunked Jack the Ripper - now that could be a character with top productivity :)

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen 2003 Allan Quatermain
Van Helsing
the 2 last Sherlock Homes

Its everywhere mate, some great stuff out there, also take a look at Wild Wild West with Will Smith, poor relative film, but steampunk none the less

Its wonderful stuff, but sadly most figures I have seen are smaller than I can manage to paint.
Its very nicely done and seems to consist of Victorian girls with large breasts and big guns or large guns and big breasts. That seems to just about cover it, now just need someone to build larger ones.
