Fun piece. Carl is a sculpting "mad-man" of late. Well done.<O:p</O:p

I have to admit though, and I'm not trying to take away from the actual likeness, but I'm not fond of the "dimpled" back and plinths that Carl is doing. I know it becomes almost a "signature" and it gives the piece a uniqueness and instant identity as a "Carl Reid" piece, I just find them distracting and unappealing. I have a few of Carl's recent sculpts (love some of his sculpts despite the dimples) and I'm tempted to fill them in smooth so as to not be so distracting. Again, this is just one man’s opinion, and we all know I’m a bit off my rocker……LOL! I just tend to like a smooth back that demands a little less visual attention I guess. Especially in this case where Adrian has chosen to make the black glossy. It creates such a pull visually for me that it almost distracts from his beautiful paint job up top. Carl, Adrian, I don’t mean to offend, just ranting I guess............I’m done………………..the nurse is calling for my medication, I’ll go back to my cell now.<O:p</O:p

I agree Jay. I am not fond of the "dimpled" look either. I am working on the Roark's Drift bust that he did for Thunderbird Miniatures and filled in those dimples and drilled a hole for a brass rod to hold it into the base. Carl's busts are excellent but I don't like that look either and will "fill and respost" my other busts I have from him in my gray army.

Thanks for the kind words folks!

Great painting Ade Well done mate!!

With regards to the dimple effect, i have had no complaints until now, and sales seem to suggest there isn't any impact as a result, but I will take on board what you say and see if my clients are happy with the dimples!

Very great sculpting again Carl.
And Adrian did some awesome job on the painting.
The dimple's well, if i wont them, i fill them.
Untill now it don't disturb me.

Another great Carl Reid bust. I don't need to see the dimples to recognise one of Carl's great pieces.

On the subject of dimples, I haven't sanded the dimples off or filled them in because they don't bother me. The fact that the dimples have become a signature of a Carl Reid sculpt, shouldn't prevent any modeller from removing them or filling them in if they don't like them. I don't think Carl would mind a bit.

At the end of the day, I totally understand Jay's position but I also believe that as an artist, Carl should use whatever stylistic means he can to make his pieces more commercially successful. Carl's dimpled bases have become his trademark, and it seems to work for him.

It's up to modeller who buys the piece to decide if he will make and paint the figure as it comes from the box, or convert it to be 100% satisfied with it.
