Hi to one and all ,

Linjo have again released a Chinese subject this time one of an emperor, before we look at the model itself lets have a little bit of a background to get us in the mood !!!

The Chinese Emperors of the Tang dynasty were the supreme power and rulers of Ancient China , sometimes having the power of life and death over their subjects .

The subject is I am sure based on pictures of Emperor Taizong (name in Chinese 唐太宗) whose reign last from 627-649 AD . He was a very forward thinking and enlightened ruler . He is shown wearing yellow and the dragon , these were only allowed to be used by the emperor and no one else .

Born on 23 January 599 AD in Wuchuan , his mother was the Duchess Dou , his father the Emperor Gaozu , he died on the 10th July 649 AD at his summer palace Cuiwei Palace. His death was initially kept a secret, and three days later, after his casket had been returned to Chang'an, his death was announced.

He is typically considered one of the greatest, if not the greatest, emperors in Chinese history. Throughout the rest of Chinese history, Emperor Taizong's reign was regarded as the exemplary .

During his reign, Tang China flourished economically and militarily. For more than a century after his death, Tang China enjoyed peace and prosperity. During Taizong's reign, Tang was the largest and the strongest nation in the world. It covered most of the territory of present-day China.

Moving onto the model itself , which truely celebrates the power of the Tang senior Officers .

Subject Title: Tang Dynasty Emperor

Scale : 200mm

Material : Resin

Reference Number : LJ 20009

Sculptor : Chun MeiZhou

Box Art : Hongwei Qin

As usual with Linjo On opening up this review model is packed in an extremely strong cardboard box , in a distinctive black with a full colour picture on the front of a painted model , colour representation being very clear and well produced , altogther great presentation .

On opening the box up I found that all the box was full with 5 pieces (cast in a cream resin) which is safely kept in place by pieces of foam ..great news as this provides more than ample protection with no worry about broken parts

The model itself consists as said of 4 pieces , the torso , the head , 2 pieces of his hat , and of course a pedastal base , casting plugs are evident but as with others in the range easily removed , again I could find no mould lines anywhere and that includes me checking with my optivisor !!! considering all the engraved details an amazing thing to do .

Looking now at the Torso itself :

As normal the sculptor has achieved an extremely high level of fine details , this coupled with the clothing folds being as smoothly done results in nothing short of a great piece .

The folds are softly done which gives the feel of silk , I am sure that painting this will be a pleasure , yellow is a hard colour to use but with your talents dear modeller a great end result will be in front of you .

The embroidered dragons , on both arms and the front of the chest are nothing short of stunning , details are finely done and not heavily sculpted giving the impression that the design is slightly padded , particularly on the dragons long and twisting body .

Another long and hard look with my optivisor resulted in again no mould lines whatsoever being evident ..all credit to the casters and to Linjo's quality control which gives the modeller a really fine and smooth painting surface.

ALL of this will aid the painting and make the process very enjoyable .

Moving onto the head its self and the 2 small pieces that need to be attached at the back .

A small casting plug needs to be removed from the base of the neck ..quick use of the snips results in a perfect fit into the torso .

As with the torso , finish is 1st class , , absolutely no mould lines , facial features are well done and very smooth , and it looks like the references , facial hair is finely done with a fine set of side whiskers !!! Ears are also well done , sometimes these can be rather indistinct ..not with Linjo models .

The wing like pieces fit at the back (after a small casting plug being removed ) and should droop down and not be rigid.

Also shown is the nice little base that is provided , I suggest you pin this to avoid any problems with superglue!!!
