Would people be interested in water slide decals of the different tartans for the likes of moz's new 42nd highlander.

Kinda like the decals used for those ww1 german fighters in lozenge colour schemes. I suppose it could make them alot more appealing to those that dont want to paint it.

Only i know a man that can and wonder if it would be a goer.

Comments and sugestions welcomed.

I'd definitely be interested in Celtic type checks etc the more modern tartans not so much but I'm sure others will love the idea

I seem to remember some displaying a Tartan piece on here a couple of years back, can’t find the thread AMT. It turned out that he was using decals; it was an outstanding and precise piece and was only 54mm if my memory serves me right, it’s just another aid in many to choose from to achieve a final result.

Good point piotrec, but thos is an idea for those that dont feel they want to paint a tartan but love the idea of having one.

I dont think ww1 aero modellers mind those lozenge decals at all

I think you would sell enough to make it worthwhile Stu. Not everyone has the ability, me included, to paint a decent tartan or celtic pattern, and may tempt people into having a go at a highland or celtic figure for the first time. I'd buy them I reckon:)

I'd say purism is comendable and perfection is to be pursued but also one needs to have a pleasure of end result, rather than frustration of many failed attempts and nothing to show or look at.

I think - a very good idea and I think tartan isnt only pony - there is alot you could put in this range.

( and I am likely to persevere with freehand, like Piotrec:D Got a highlander figure in grey army - avoiding doing it because of tartan, heheh, did I mention I also do "hypocrite" part time? )

Not sure how decals would properly adhere to folds and crevices of the kilt. But even if I would repaint them - they would form a useful "reference" for painting and might give an orientation for an "in-scale"-apperance of the tartan pattern. Cool idea(y)!
Cheers, Martin

The AFV and aircraft guys use Micro Sol and micro set to soften and shape them into difficult areas, I have some here and it works great.

now that also may be something - decals that help you to put blueprint that you could paint over = you could bend them round creases etc

Like a tartan grid , if you like. + endless griffins, elks and geraldic beasties - just outlines - so it doesnt take away the job/joy of painting them, but you can make it your own.

Yes exactly, as I mentioned earlier, a way of achieving an end result if you have difficulty in this area of painting, the possibilities are endless.

They already do them for 28mm Stu.
It's a good Idea, would you do them in different scales?

Hmm my post disappeared but I used a decal for the shield design on Steve Readie's crusader figure as I tried a few times freehand and just couldn't get it quite right so I used a decal as an outline template and painted it that way as for the "purists" unless they grind their own paints, boil their glues etc stuff 'em, it's whatever works for you on your figure. I'd be in the market for the heraldic designs Gaudin mentioned earlier myself
