Wow! Far in...two terror birds! Great ! Prehistorics Rule!
Beautiful job by the way...is it a Kelenken?

It is similar on Chocobo from Final Fantasy
It has well turned out...
I tougth the same when I look up the reconstruction of the bird the first time, I thing that the people of square enix base the initial desing of their chocobo on the same terror bird.

Hi Juan, some nice work on this; is it intended to be historical or just a fantasy piece?

Einion

HI Einion, well originally I wanned to do a big bird to be used as a mount so I begin to investigate about the gigant birds the first that I find was the moa (extint 500 year ago) and on the ongoing investigation I found the terror bird family, I thougth that this is the best bird to be used as mount so, I thing that the mini can be use on bout themes as a mount on a fantasy context or as a terror bird by itself, it is based on the correct anatomical proportions and body shape of the prehistorical bird I just change the tails feathers arrangament bercause I did not like the way they look on the painting reconstructions, also if you paint it as a historiucal terror bird it looks good, I amsd begining to paint one on a more fantasy way, I will post later some pictures from that.

In this case I'd suggest a look for further references to check proportions and body shape (leg muscles, how the legs attach to the body when seen from the front).

On the head, which is one of the most characteristic aspects of these birds, apart from the profile (side view) of the beak being a little off they tended to narrow very much toward the end, much like on modern-day eagles or some vultures. You've done it wider and blunter, a little like on some finches, which aren't very scary :)

Hi Einion, that is a good comment, on future sculptures I will take more real references for the historical birds, the last bird the finch I have not seeing it on the past is a beatifull image, thanls for sharing.
