Looks like you are trying to link to a photo album in which case you cannot use the HTML tag of IMG SRC. That can only be used when there is a graphics file extension such as .gif or .jpg.

Wow Jason.....now you gotta tell us more about what they are going to be and what the scene portrays. btw.....I have never seen a SBS done of mounted figures. Please take pictures as you go along. Looking good so far.

Thanks Guy, it's a Franco-Prussian War vignette that depicts a French and a Prussian cuirassier going at it during the battle of Rezonville (Mars-la-Tour/Vionville...what have you).

It's almost finished, the Prussian cuirassier remains to be painted. I'll post a pic of what they looked like after sculpting.

Thanks again :)

Hello Jason,
I have a few questions. I can see that the heads are from another source, what source and are the upper torso's yours that you sculpted. Is the armature brass rod and how did you conect legs and arms? are the horses converted too? I notice the saddle bags on the right horse, are they yours? as you can see....I don't know much about the process, but would love to learn.

Thanks

Guy

Guy,

The figure torso's and boots are resin cast. I filed down the detail on old Airfix Multipose pieces and made a mold.

The armature are brass rods, I also use small paperclips. I drill into the resin torso about 3/8in.and glue the rod w/ Zap-a-Gap and 5minute epoxy.

The horses are from Historex, I used a plastic shim (1/16in.) to give it some bulk. Historex horses are very detailed but are on the skinny side. I filled the gap w/ Magic Sculp and brushed smooth w/ water. After it dried I then lightly sanded.

The horse "furniture" is Magic Sculp w/ lead foil for straps and Duro for buckles.

Thanks for the interest Guy. Jason

Jason.......ya doin good there.........thanks for posting the close up of the horse furniture.......gives all a good look at your steps and progress.
many thanks and please keep us updated as you go with additional pictures.

Hello Jason,

I have to second Guy, it is looking good so far and I also enjoy seeing the inprogress steps. Keep them coming! :) Didn't you also just do a Civil War diorama?

Joe

Great work Jason, I saw some in progress pics that you posted a while back on TNT, reminds me so much of Bill Horans stuff. Love to see some more pics.

Hello Jason,

I have a couple of questions for you:
I see the brass used on the front blanket of the saddle......does this get covered with sculpty or the medium you are using.

The buckles you have on the straps......did you make them or convert them?

You are doing great work and I hope to see photos of your next step.

Thanks,

Guy (y)

I suspect he will just prime right over the metal. The buckles he made from Duro which is pretty easy to do.

Sorry for not replying sooner, it's busy at home. First off, thanks for the kind words. It's that kind of encourgement that I need to press on.

As for the buckles I used Duro, just a "blob" of it, squared it of w/ an exacto knife, then wrapped a tiny string around the blob. I probably won't do that again, it's too tedious, especially in that scale. It is very difficult to keep all buckles uniform. To me, they look o.k., but the searching eye will note the variations.

The tent poles are steel rod and will (is) primed over. I'll post pic's later of the painted horse....IN ACRYLICS TA BOOT!!!

Jason

Thanks Jason,

You make it sound so easy......easy enough that it is giving me the needed courage to try some stuff. Somewhere in the postings I have a 54mm horse and I was thinking about doing a hide sadle cover, to cover the McClellan saddle (didn't have them then and do gordy's tip of an impression for the hair. I wanted to add a blanket roll on the rear of the saddle too. I hope to try this soon and will post results.

Keep up the great work Jason (y) ......Love it
