The flagpole is more flaccid than I would like because of the weight of the flag - there was an alternate shield, however it came with broken detailed straps and in my opinion also makes the figure significantly less imposing, so I decided against using that.

This is really well painted. A shame you have had the problem with the flag. I'm not familiar with this piece so I wonder if it could've been corrected with a metal rod. I know it's fiddle but it will correct it. A good piece and the problem doesn't detract from the work on this. Top job.

Thanks you! I think there is already some sort of metal wire in there - I can bend it back easy enough but it always droops back again. I'm considering working a permanent solution into a vignette or something one day but for now I ran out of basing materials and I'm eager to get started on another order I just got.

Impressive figure ,neat painting on the flag and the shield , perhaps add some cuts/ damage and weathering the shield ?
