The carpet monster

I wear an old apron as protection against spillages and to catch things heading for the carpet monster.
It works for the spillages, but the old carpet monster still has its unerring attraction.
I think Carl's right about the laws of physics; or maybe Sod's Law (Murphy was an optimist).

Cheers,
Andrew

I've beaten the monster a few times with this trick: darken the room, shine a torch parallel to the floor.
Any unevenness will stand out by a long shadow.
You'll be disgusted by most of what shows up, but sometimes that little part just happens to be there (in a place where you thought you had already looked).

Hope you find the missing part Ron.

Cheers
Adrian

I was at an IPMS model show yesterday and we were talking about the same perpetual problem.
One chap said he has a cylinder vacuum cleaner with a piece off a pair of old tights across the nozzle,
he gives the area a quick sweep and lo and behold the missing part is 'attached' to the end of the pipe.
I suppose it could work for smaller metal castings too, if they are too small to see straight away,
it should be light enough to be picked up.

Disgusting, cat hair, pocket fluff, cat/dog hair, potato crisp crumbs and quite possibly worse horrors lurk in the dark recesses of the carpet monster. A solution may be to buy a Harry Potter wand and the associated spell necessary to find your minuscule small resin or white metal components that fall prey to this foul beast ;)
I must also vacuum my computer keyboard soon by the way :)

My computer keyboard need something like brick and patio cleaner on it

If anyone still has that old orange shag carpet from the 70's, its high time to rip it out :D!

All joking aside, when we built our study we put in a light colored tile floor. Whenever I drop or manage to fling something into space, I do as Adrian suggested above. So far I have a 100% recovery rate. On the flip side however, the tile floor is not forgiving if you happen to drop a metal figure. It has happened to me twice and I'll be darned if they didn't hit face first. Damage in the way of deforming/flattening the nose and in the case of a 17th Lancer, the brim of his lance cap as well !

The definitive solution :p :
