It's not Simpson, as captioned in the first two attachments - rather the man in the first two is Pte Dick Henderson, New Zealand Medical Corps, who has been mistakenly taken for Simpson. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Alexander_Henderson
Chris - I remember reading Simpson's story years ago as a kid and it has stuck with me. I just Googled the "man with the donkey" and these were the first ones that came up. Thanks for the additional info. Off to do more research...

In fact I am not sure the third photo is Simpson either - as quite a few blokes employed donkeys/mules to carry the lightly wounded down from the unit RAP's, as did Simpson. Nor was Simpson ever recommended for the VC - he was posthumously awarded an MID - the only other award that could be made posthumously at the time. One of the many myths surrounding him.
That's not to say Simpson didn't do a great job - he did- but not everything claimed about him is true. The myths have reached gigantic proportions down here - I personally heard one young fellow state that Simpson saved the lives of thousands of men - he was only on the peninsula for 25 days before being sniped.
For some reason Andy Cairns comes to mind for me as well as doing this previously, could be mistaken though and might just be that this image reminds me of Andy's work.
Great idea though Steve for a figure project.
Steve - cheers for that - I also remember Andy working on something similar - if not I shall put it on my ever growing list!
Chris - thanks again. I think these things were probably used as propaganda at the time, but, as you say, he was one of many such brave souls who ventured out to bring home the wounded. I think it would be fitting to have a suitable version in miniature...
