Here's a few pics of a 1/72 scale diorama I made using ESCI, Revell and Italeri figures. The "officer" is a conversion from many different figs. Most of the others have had simple swaps of heads, the flag, etc. I used Andrea paints and Testors metallics.

John,

Amazing piece - great composition and painting - in 1/72 scale ! - thanks for sharing it !

If I could ask, how do you clean up and prepare these soft plastic figures for painting ? I've never been able to clean up the casting seams with out botching them. Also, how do you go about converting these guys - particularly, how do you "glue" soft plastic to soft plastic ?

Again, great job, and thanks in advance for the advice.

Cheers,

Brian

Jon,
I just finished my first ever 1/72 scale figure last night, and I must say I have a MUCH greater respect for what you do with this scale! This is a great composition! Good work. I found myself REALLY pushing the highlights and contrasts in this scale. It takes some practice, but ultimately, I would like to do more!

Jon,

Very good work, but why did you paint them with gray moustaches, when the average age of a grenadier was 25?

I wish they would produce such figures in Hardplastic (as known from p. e. Tamiya or Dragon Kits). That would be a dream come true for creating anything you want in small scale!

You have done a perfect job on those minis: Excellent Build up and Paint Job! I love it!

Thanks again to eveybody!

The reason I painted MOST of the soldiers with grey hair etc. is that I was playing up the "old" aspect of the "old guard." In most of the paitings etc. that I've seen - they also try to portray them as older men.

To be frank, I just wanted to see if I could convincingly make them appear old. A bit of a challenge in 1/72!

But thank you for bringing the facts to light. I'll just have to chaulk it up to artistic licence.

Best!
