This is one of the busts I purchased at Yeovil Model Show from Rob Lane. I have liked him for a while so saving postage I had to have it.

A lovely sculpted bust with minimal cleaning up and a bit smaller scale than I normally do so I shall able to be able to rattle him out in no time, Nap.;)

I started with the eyes painted in acrylics then once dry they were given a coat of acrylic gloss varnish.

Artist's oils were used for the flesh.

For the wig I used Artist's oils again( Vandyke Brown) but thinned down quite a bit and brushed in well, this flows into all the crevices and leaves the tops lighter which when dry should be all I need to do to the wig, hopefully.

That's it for today.

You got a great bargain with your purchases at Yeovil

Following of course but no doubt you will have finished by the time I finish setting up !

Happy benchtime

Nap

PS At the moment I'm prepping up David Grieves Blucher bust after seeing Pat Camps version ..so it's his fault !

Speedy Gonzalez strikes again, you only brought them Saturday but I am watching this as it is a superb piece. Looking good already.

Blimey that is quick - I only read the Facebook post this morning displaying the purchases!
Nice work though.

Dean

Very nice Geoff. Wish I had your speed with the brushes! Regards Pete

This is coming on well Geoff.

Great start Geoff. Very characterful bust.

Many thanks Guys, he is a nice bust but I think I have lost him after I have finished him as the wife has taken a shine to him, but not too worried as he will then be in her china cabinet and that has lights, so I will see him better.

Thanks Nap, you are slow, you had less models to put away than I did.

After see my pics blown up I think I will have to highlight his wig, it looks so different big size.

Enjoy the DG bust, I have a few of his figures from wayback, nice stuff.

Will finish him tomorrow:p;)

Hello Geoff

A query about your working methods if I may. Are you putting your oils straight down onto the primer? If so do you use any mediums? Looking to speed my painting up a bit - given the size of my grey army ☹️.

Thanks, Dean

Hi Dean, I do with the flesh, oils over white primer, I tend to mix and use the oils neat, straight out of the tube, if I do need to thin it a bit I just use White Spirit.

I do go over acrylic colours with oils as with the leather work on my 17th Lancer, as I was not happy with the finish of the acrylic.

The wig on this bust, I diluted the brown Artist's oils quite a bit with White Spirit and applied it with a no. 2 brush and worked it in well and it flowed into the roots leaving the raised areas a lighter look, this was over the white primer too.

Hope this helps, any more questions always ask mate.

Geoff
