Hello Planeteers!

Little progress has been made on the Bigeard bust after correcting some of the details on the bust, discussed at large in Nap's excellent thread on his version of the same project:https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/marcel-bigeard.237141/

The face looks quite finished to me and the jacket has acquired the suitable shade of green to start with the camouflage, the jackets in the Algerian war having a much greener shade in comparison to the earlier Indochine ones. Bear with me, it's going to take some time!

Thanks for looking,

Pierre

Lovely job so far Pierre, the shading on the base colour of the combat smock looks very subtle & well blended.
Not to derail your thread, but I like the female Spanish Civil War bust behind Bigeard too.

Hi Pierre

So Monsier Bruno has his own thread ....nice one

Do agree with Chris , like the shading on the uniform ....look forward to seeing you do a camo version if possible post pics after each stage ?

.......be interesting to see both of our versions together

The face work is really good ....will you be putting a 5o'clock shadows on him...I found it diffcult to know when to stop with mine ...but it worked well ....YES I will get pics done !

Look forward to more from you on this

Happy benchtime

Stay safe

Nap

PS ...I too like that young lady from FeR ...next SBS ?

I'll try to put up pics after each stage of the camo painting and later on when painting the medals etc.

My Bigeard will stay clean shaven, as are all my beardless figures except my Dien Bien Phu legionnaire. He wouldn't appear on parade dressed up with full medals in "tenue de prise d'armes" with a stubble, would he?

Oh yes, the lady in the background will be my tribute to my late grandmother, but that's a long story altogether. An SBS is a possibility though.

Cheers,

Pierre

Hi Pierre

Slow perhaps but your braver than me with the camo ......did you airbrush ?

Look forward to the next colour

Happy benchtime

Nap

Thanks Nap,

Brave? well, our motto was and is "Who dares wins", so there is no other way...

Airbrush? No, I don't own one ( not even a hairbrush:), with an eternal crew cut you don't need one). Just a W&N Series 7 No1 and a Flat Head from Broken Toad.

On with the green now!

Pierre

Your Bigeard bust is a gorgeous piece of work, Pierre - the flesh tones are superb, & the texture of his web belt looks exactly like the real thing. The camouflage smock painting is incredible, top marks for that!

The Dien Bien Phu Legionnaire is stunning too - smooth transitions between the camouflage colours, nice textures on the steel helmet & web equipment, & he has the authentic look of a man under tremendous stress. About a year ago I read Martin Windrow’s “The Last Valley”, & it gave me an appreciation of how gruelling & at times medieval that battle truly was.

Hi my friend

Certainly daring ...it's going to look really good ...agree with Chris ref the belt ....nice detail texture

At the moment I am prepping up Rolett ...a background project

Look forward to seeing more on M.Bruno

Happy benchtime

Nap

PS Had to google hairbrush .....lol

A little progress on "Bruno"

First go with the green stripes, W&N Oxide of Chromium with a dash of Burnt Umber, suitably diluted. Once dry the camo pattern will be shadowed/lightened where necessary and after touching up, it's 'just' on to the medals and ribbons, keeping the beret to the last. I situated my Bigeard on parade in early 1958, so he will be depicted as full colonel.

Nap, as for Rollet, I'd do something about his beard i.e. reduce his whiskers and give a more square look to his goatee, ref the numerous photos of the man, to give him that colonial/missionary look. For your information, Rollet had blue eyes!

Cheers,

Pierre

Hi Pierre

Nice to see this getting on ...slow is good ..lol

Camo looks good , perhaps a wash over to tone the colours together ?

Good to see the ribbons getting colour on them as well

Thanks for sharing

Happy benchtime

Nap

Hi Pierre

That looks really good , medals look great , very neat lining on the ribbons as well

Beret is a good colour as well

Thanks for sharing

Look forward to the final result

You should get the Rollet by st as well !

Happy benchtime

Nap

Thanks Nap!

Used my own old beret to match the colour as closely as possible in oils, the French almost identical to the British and Belgian maroon.

As for Rollet, he'l have to wait a little longer in my grey army. Painting too many French medals in a short time may be harmful, didn't you know?

Cheers,

Pierre
