Hello Planeteers,
I am pleased to show you my newest creation - the Polish national levy
cavalryman at the battle of Beresteczko, 28-30th of June 1651.
This was the biggest battle fought on the Polish-Lithuanian soil during
the 17th century (perhaps the largest European battle of the same
century) - 70 thousand Polish-Lithuanians under king & high duke Jan
(John) Casimir Vasa on one side against the 100 thousand Cossack under
hetmen Bohdan Chmielnicki ( Khmelnitsky) and 40 thousand Crimean Tatars
under khan Islam Geray on the other. Polish-Lithuanians won the battle
and as a result it led all sides to a temporary settlement at Biala
Cerkiew (Bila Tserkva) in 1651, but the very war soon resumed, bleeding
dry Poland, Ukraine and Tatars... eventually leading to a complete
Russian domination over all parties within 140 years from the date of
this battle.
My cavalryman is leading his rumak (brave and beautiful warhorse - from
the Persian language via Ukrainian and Turkish), perhaps taking a break
from fighting or chasing after the fleeing enemy. He is of the Mazovian
Palatinate (Warsaw is the capital of todays' Polish province of
Mazovia) noble levy company, well equipped for the occasion, almost
winged hussar like (one option would be here to add some wings to the
saddle, armguards (Karwasze) and a koncerz (tuck) under the saddle
skirts, and officer buzdygan, then he could become a winged hussar officer.
The figures are made from the super sculpey in 120 mm scale, while bow
case, quiver, arrows, and sabre are made from the gray milliput.
This is my most difficult project, I 'marched' from one defeat to
another (eg horse was not in scale, when I corrected that, then the
nobleman went out of scale, then my airbrush gave me problems - my
brother Pawel helped me here), well at the end you can see the outcome
of my 'fighting,' some sort of victory, I hope
do enjoy and do comment
thanks
