The Red Knight is a Belgian comic character.The fans have been screaming for a 3D version of their hero for a long time.I'm one of those fans and I happen to have some knowledge of sculpting.The long wait is coming to an end.

This is a 1/3 scale(10 inch) bust.The pictures show the completed sculpture just prior to moulding.This week will be spent on the preparation of the 2 different versions(sorry,collectibles...not model kits) for final aproval.a stonelook version and a full colored one.Needles to say this piece is done in magic sculp :lol:

Hallo Jimmy,

Dat ziet er geweldig uit. Ik heb nog veel boeken van de rode ridder.
Het was in mijn jeugd voor mij het beste stripverhaal na Suske en Wiske.
Is deze buste ook commercieel verkrijgbaar.

Groeten Marc

Awesome Work!

How do you go about starting a project such as this? What is the core under the Magic Sculpt? Also what tools do you use in these larger scales?

Id love to try my hands at something large like this!

Hey Jimmy

You must've got shares in Magic Sculp :lol:

Seriously, this is excellent. I echo the previous comments on the hair (wish mine was like that!!!)

As the comic character's features are not well defined, did you have a particular face in mind when you started this project?

Cheers

Phil

The monochrome version is ready.As you can see, the innitial idea to go for a stonelook finish was abandoned.It just didn't look good on this bust.

@Phil:

It was one of the conditions before a wanted to start this project.I asked the licenseholder for a mixture of comic and realism in the design.The drawings were indeed a little to simpel.As I write this, a new artist has taken over the comic and the bust is closer to his drawings.So bringing in the twist of style in the sculpture was not a bad idea after all.

Cheers,

Jiver

ps: thank you all for the kind comments

@Anders:

I hate to waste precious sculpting medium, so I always look for a cheaper and less time consuming method to create a larger volume.In this case, I created a body mass in the right scale.I took a mould and casted a plaster version.It can be easely sanded if needed and the Magic Sculp adheres very well to it.You can make these bodies in different scales(even smaller ones) and since there's no need for a perfect finish,anyone can make them.As for tools: You can go bigger for 1/2 or 1/1 scale, but I finished this one with the same tools I used to make game figures with :lol:

@Marc:

Cheers,

Hi Jimmy

The Red Knight has turned out beautifully. I admire your tight sculpting style and the cleanness of the master - something I struggle with.

Saw the Tiger Lady on your site - very nice too. I assume that is another comic character.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

Best regards

Phil
