You are right, the background should not distract, it should be monochrome without any spots. thanks for the comment.

Ahhh ... the various meaning of the same word
in french
Fixer quelqu'un ... means look at somebody, as if he(she) was a magnet and you a compass needle
Fixer quelque chose means or : look at something( the same way as above ) or put ( a way they stay assembled ) something to something, or repair something

Right Michel, in Spanish it is similar, "fijar" , same sense as in french, but in English, "fix it" as I wrote, means "repair it".
