33 parts
This is a beautiful set of three figures depicting the battle of Teutoberg Forest in 9 AD. The kit consists of 33 parts plus a detailed hard plaster base.
The kits comes packed in a hard white cardboard box with foam sandwiching the parts sealed bags for each figure.
Historical Note:
At the beginning of the first century AD united Germanic tribes under the leadership of the Cherusci chieftain Arminius rose against the Roman occupation force. In the year 9 AD the Germans succeeded in annihilating an entire Roman provincial army under their governor Varus through an ambush in an area Roman historians call „Saltus Teutoburgiensis“ (Teutoburg Forest). Realizing his hopeless situation, Varus choose to take his own life rather than to die fighting. All his soldiers’ attempts to burn his body to prevent desecration were to no avail and the victorious Germans took the head of Varus as a trophy. The three eagle-standards of the defeated legions were also captured by the Germans. Our scene shows the victorious warlord at the end of the three-day battle surrounded by his triumphant tribesman proudly presenting their trophies. The iron helmet-mask on the ground stems from the site of the assumed battlefield near Kalkriese, Germany.
Notice: The kit contains spare heads and additional pieces of weapons and equipment as alternative parts, leaving the modeler with a lot of options for the individual design of the figures.
Arminius: 1 spare head with fillet
Warrior with standard: 1 spare right arm with Germanic sword, 1 Germanic sword-scabbard,
1 Germanic standard
Warrior with head: 1 spare head with hat, 1 right hand with helmet-mask, 1 spare knife, 1 javelin, 1 long spear, 1 round shield
