Well, that looks like a nicely painted figure... could we get some close-ups too please?

... One question/critique if you allow me: was it your intention to do the shield as a "brand new" piece of equipment? Mostly you see these things depicted with battle "scars" and muted, faded colours...

Well, that horse looks good as far as I can see, so your technique for horses sure does work... (y)

Alex,

My impressions:

The horse has a VERY nice Frazetta touch to it. The markings, the emphasized muscles, the expression,... I believe you when you said the horse was carefully researched. It shows.(y):

On the other hand, the rider looks contrived and aseptic. Perhaps it's the wooden pose or the aluminium-look of the mail (or the decal-like painting on the shield ), but it's nowhere near the realism of the horse.

Guess you can't win 'em all!

Uh? What's the tut-tut for?

Alan, I hope you're not misinterpreting my post and think I'm siding with the 'dudes'.

That would be a serious (and slightly offending) mistake.

Quang

Wait a minute, Quang-dude. What's wrong with being a "dude" anyway? Is it because we use real primer?

Hoss, I've been to the Dude Ranch, didn't like it and wanted to be no part of it.

All of you, 'dudes', already know about it. I told you years ago. Why insist?

As for my post about Alex's work, it's frank, heart-felt and argumentated. I just don't want it to be associated with the recent cat-calls. Period.

INTERLUDE.

Alan, yesterday at the AMSS, I have seen a REALLY great 54mm Indian based on R. Griffing's painting, next to be released by Sparta, a manufacturer from Germany.

As you may know, I've seen lots of Indian figures but this one is IT. Pictures coming up soon.

Just had a feeling you should know about this figure.

Alex,

Horse seems to be very well done from what I can see in the photo. The shield is very well done. I know you didn't ask for comments, but I figured compliments can't hurt. (y)

Quang, why so touchy? :(

Your Warlord looks great Alex. I have this figure squirreled away in the closet and may bring it out this spring.

Johan,

You are correct in your observation!

I have no close-ups and no longer have the work. This piece was painted to be autioned. As a rule, I keep the piece clean, not battle warned or weathered depending on who is purchasing it. This piece was NOT intended to be seen by sanctioned miniature shows nor miniature clubs.

Happy Painting,
Alex
No problem with your figure, Alex, I just wondered about it's clean appearance ... thanks for your reply. ;)

I'll have another look at that well painted horse ... somewhat difficult to see clearly, (gun)smoke gets in your eyes, you know ;) .

I would actually like to see your work in reality one day... are there any shows that you do attend to, like fe. shows with Fantasy, SF, Horror stuff?
