Hi everyone! Here is my first attempt at a posting. I converted Fort Dusquesne Wiciska Sioux to Gandalf the White. The clothing and cloak are napkins stiffened with fabric stiffener. The base is a tree fungus from my back yard. I probably did this about five years ago. I know my paint job is not all that hot so be kind to me. The name of the game is to have fun, right?
OK, so here are the pic's:

Awesome, Nice work, I love the way you have changed the original to this version, looks close to the movie as well. I also agree with Gordy about the base.
Welcome to Planetfigure
Ben

Thanks for all the positive comments. I will try to post more photos of some of my other stuff soon. I'm currently working on 120mm Doc Savage, 120 mm the beast (x-men), 120 mm the phantom (comic hero), Harton miniatures mounted mountain man and mounted Us cavalry. A trip to Hawaii this winter inspired me to order 120 mm King Kamehameha and a 120 mm maori. I hope to have these soon. I picked up some hawaiian koa hardwood to make special bases for these 2 figures. I'm also plannig another lord of the rings movie figure of Arwen and Frodo on horseback, also 120mm.

Gerald Congrats on The White Rider

OhMa'Gosh, Gerald:

You're doing the kind of work that I'm trying to get better at. Conversions. I
must congratulate you on your skill. I presume it is about 54mm? I remember
Fort Ducquenes(sp, sorry) figures but not this particular horse. I would say
you have a very artistic and creative way of doing your work, as noted by
the subject matter, and then the list of other projects that you're working on.

You have a real feel for drama and tension, atmosphere and it is shown so
well here. Repeating what other Planeteers have said, I love the base, altho
I don't think the name plate works too well. Very nice photographs.

I'm doing an ECW Parliamentarian Cavalryman in 54mm right now. It is slow
and go. . . I continue to stay with it. But I see doing equestrian figures in
small scale like this as quite difficult. So I commend you even more for your
very artistic and interesting results.

Congrats, Kansas Kid

Wendy, I was too embarrassed to respond to Marc's comment about reins.

Thanks for pulling the cork out of my bottle of Chateau Geek.

I will also add that Shadowfax, as the Lord of the Mearas, consented to carry Gandalf on his back. Gandalf didn't "ride" Shadowfax, so much as Shadowfax permitted Gandalf to sit on his back while he ran.

Gandalf required neither rein nor saddle because Shadowfax, having consented to let Gandalf "ride" him, would ensure that he didn't need either to stay up there.

Aaaaah, that feels better. I've unleashed the Geek, and it feels goooood.

Wendy, I was too embarrassed to respond to Marc's comment about reins.

You are right....when you follow the book. If you look to the movie you see the rein in Gandalf's right hand...; and sometimes left.
For fun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Lq15IlLrHY
That's where i referring to.
But if you follow strictly the book: Yes, he is riding Shadowfax without saddle or reins.

I apoligize that I embarres you Tony, that whas not my intention.

Marc, you didn't embarrass me at all mate and there's nothing for you to apologise about. I know that wasn't your intention. Unfortunately it was my fault.

I was embarrassed to admit that I am such a LOTR geek that I knew Gandalf rode Shadowfax without reins, but I was just too chicken to say (even though I really, really wanted to) because I thought it was too geeky to say so.

Then Wendy, bless her Elvish ears, totally out-geeked me and this allowed me to unleash my pent-up LOTR geekiness without embarrassment.

Hi Rick. The figure is 120 mm.
Regarding the reins, I agree with the comments that Shadowfax allowed Gandalf to ride. I always pictured them more as a team rather than rider and horse.
About the name plate--I haven't actually attached it yet after all this time as I can't find a good spot to my eyes. Thanks again for the comments everyone.

i think this is very nice. White is hard to paint, and over all this looks pretty good if you go for too much shadow it can start to look gray. For this subject brighter really is kind of better way to go. I agree the movement is very nice and the use of paper makes for very thin flowing robes. Really nice figure. I look forward to seeing some of your more recent work.

I think if I unleashed more of my inner geek I might be happier and get more work done. I have few movie inspired works waiting in the cue.
