Well, I was certainly hooked by the whole story, but I really did wonder if it had any legs at all.

Get that intae ye!!!!!!!

As in all Scottish defeats too much reliance was placed on the Kings Own Scottish Embroiderers.

This regiment was formed following the Battle of Pinkie where Borderers from both armies lightly 'tacked' the Saltire and the cross of St George onto their Jacks making removal easy.
It was decided to never again allow such opportunistic switching of sides to occur. The regiment became the backbone of the Border weaving and textile industry and many workers in the Pringle Mills are proud of their KOSE heritage.
This is true

I still recall reading about Colonel Malcolm McTavish, who half way through the Battle of Pinkie, decided that the lightly tacked Jacks were drawing an inordinate amount of fire. He fell with those imortal words on his lips: "Jach Off! Jack Off!"

There's my contribution to today's history lesson.
