Ah...parent-hood! The hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life was to hold my infant son, Kyle, while an intern did a spinal punch to try to find out if he had meningitis. He'd had a high, spikey fever for two or three days and the differential diagnosis certainly indicated that it was the right thing to do. Probably he didn't have meningitis - even viral, the fever went down and he recovered fully in a few days. 30 years old now! I was certain he would never forgive me. Lucky me, he's semi-blocked the memory.
