I was just thinking how cool it would be to have Nativity figures scukpted as miniatures, thanks for the link.

Cheers

Tom has been talking on his message boards about doing this for at least a year. I think this is a project his wife really wanted him to do. Bless her heart, because we will all get some really nice figures to paint and our families will get really nice Nativity sets. Win Win. I mean look at this it makes my fingers itch just looking at them.

Jeff, I saw those a few days ago and thought the way the clothing was sculpted made them excellent study models. It would be nice to see more larger scale pieces from him in the future.~Gary

Meier's work is unbelieveable. I remember reading an article about him many years ago. I believe he does his work laying down while looking into a stereoscopic projector with a small platform on his stomach that he works on. Absolutely crazy stuff!

He is a miniature genius. There is no other word for it. His work is very humbling. I cannot achieve the quality he obtains in 1/48 scale even on larger stuff. This the kind of thing that has inspired me to look for another career. I feel as if I am casting swine before pearls.......... ! ;)

This guy is getting better detail than some 54mm pieces! Really amazing stuff, scale considerations be damned.

Mike you sell yourself short. You do great work. Your 1/48 scale pilots form a few years ago were just as inspiring. http://www.jaguarmodels.com/148sf.htm

Tom uses a pretty high power stereo dissecting microscope and he now uses a Lazyboy with some sort of desk attached to it. I asked him on his message board about why he started sculping laying down and he said it was to reduce back strain, I guess back when he started he had some back problems.

I keep looking at his 1/48 scale WW II figures and thinking about what great dioramas could be done with them, and some of the new 1/48 scale tanks that are comming out now. It has been really nice seeing some of his larger scale work that he posts photos of from time to time. Like the 54mm French and Indian War stuff he is doing for his son, just stunning.

Mike Mike Mike, Don't forget that Meier has been sculpting figure of this scale for years. I would think that if you had concentrated all of your efforts on 1/48 scale figures when you initially sculpted your work in that scale would still be held in the same regard it is now.~Gary
