With a bit more spare time on my hands as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak I’m trying to make a dent in the grey army. I’ve made a start on this offering from Mitches Military Models, a 120mm sculpt by Moz Corry entitled Gentleman in Khaki. Based on the Caron Woodville picture it depicts a British infantryman around the time of the Second Boer War. A lovely sculpt with a defiant/stoical pose. I’m quite a way on with him in fairness and wanted to give him a worn dirty look as if following an engagement he is down to his last few rounds. I’ve gone for a khaki drill colour from the early days of the war. Some of my reference material suggests that the darker and thicker khaki serge was subsequently introduced owing to conditions on the veldt. Still got the boots, rifle and helmet to do and the groundwork is just a basecoat of Humbrol 110 at present. Was thinking of painting up the helmet flash as a Lancashire Fusilier at Spion Kop but not sure he would have been stood so prominently with the murderous Boer fire coming in.
