Augie, I salute you.
You have inspired painters and sculptors from every corner of the world, I personally have learned a great deal from you and for that I’m very grateful.
My friend, you are a true master of our hobby.

Ciao,

Roc :)

Is it the anniversary of something, or is there a new release by Augie or something? I didn't think he frequented these boards much.

Hi John,
This is just my way of thanking and recognizing augi's contributions to the hobby, that's all.
He does not post much on the planet, although I wish he would, but he does check
In occasionally.

keep the great work.

Cheers,

Roc. :)

Roc, my friend

Of course I agree with your comments. Augie is a very important reference in our hobby, specially in my country (Spain).

When Augie left Delphi Forums he moved in with Lilliput Forums and has his own section....MedRen......This is a Spanish forum very popular with alot of our members (including myself) and the people of Lilliput do a terrific job with their forom. You can visit them by clicking on the link below.

Well, I cant say I know Augie. But he will always have a special place in my heart for doing the bust of Gustav II Adolf (Gustavoues Adolpheus). I painted this piece several years ago and Im actually thinking of buying me another one and do it again since it was such a fun piece to paint.

Hi Roc, mighty great thread you've started my friend..........I've never met Augie in person, but we talked via emails and on his old forums..........

He's a true master in every sense of the word both in sculpting and painting, and he's aslo an intellectual, patient, honest person which are so very rare to find these days, and I'm not talking about our hobby only!!

He's a gold mine of knowledge, in the historical side of our hobby, something which is being thrown out of the window faster then a pony express rider being chased by Apaches!!

Quote- "Augie may have rubbed some people the wrong way in the past".

Dave, as I said I don't know him personally, but from what we've exchanged via the internet, I know that if there's a need for a rubbing, he would do it and I admire him for being so outspoken and defending something which is a cult (historicity) for him...........the thing that inflicted deep wounds in him was, that we (the modellers) jump with joy like lambs to the slaughter, when fed with mediocre, inaccurate (historical) kits, rolling off the production line...........

He may seem bad tempered to those who don't know him and to those who are not of Latin blood (we Maltese are  ) but I know that he's a JUST man, a man of his word and there's no *#^%@^# around with him as regards historicity!!!

If you ask me if I always make figures which are historically correct, my answer would be a simple NO!! And yes I do enjoy painting from time to time without wrecking my brain to accuracy, but then I wouldn't expect any false praise and go fumbling and swearing if I don't get any recognition or if someone as sound as Augie would give me a WELL DESERVED RUBBING!!

Augie I salute you MASTER :)

Ray,

Check out your historicity! ;) Wrong timing and wrong geographical location.

Nothing dramatic but it's precisely approximative statements like this that lead to "mediocre, inaccurate (historical) kits, rolling off the production line..........."

Having said that, there's nothing wrong with History City. Just don't let it turn into Intolerance Town.:)

Cheers,
Q.

Hi Quang, :( my apologies for not having added "by some manufacturers" when I was referring to mediocre, inaccurate (historical) kits rolling off the production line......!

I fully agree with you as History City can turn into Intolerance Town!!

I come from a club....Society for Scale Modellers (S.S.M ) where the foundation of it was aircraft modelling and there was and still is Intolerance Town galore by a fanatic aircraft modeller who just can't stand anything which is not historically correct as regards aircraft.......we used to call him a walking encyclopedia, now we call him a hard disk  I can't say that he doesn't get on everyone's nerves from time to time, but I can also say that I've learned to pay more attention and ask "many" questions before this and that.........it may not be History City to its true meaning, it may be Authenthic City, but it can be Intollerance Town all the way!!

I wasn't and am not speaking on behalf of Augie.........I was only saluting him through what I experienced on a personal basis.......again, I'm no sculptor or manufacturer of historical miniatures, so I haven't experinced him on the same end as you or any other sculptor or manufacturer might have...........

As I said, I'm historically ignorant and the pony express rider being chased by Apaches was no statement to hurt or ridicule anyone as I have the GREATEST RESPECT & ADMIRATION for the Native Americans! It just came into my mind and wrote it, exactly like "mediocre, inaccurate (historical) kits, rolling off the production line.........." are done most of the time I presume, and I can CLEARLY see your point, even though as you said, "nothing dramatic", one has to "be sure that the brain is in gear before engaging mouth!!"

Warmest Regards,

Ray :)

Ray,

Let me put this straight. ;)

My response concerns only the 'pony express' remark and your uncompromising statement about 'mediocre, inaccurate (historical) kits'.

It doesn't concern Augie Rodriguez nor my views about 'historical accuracy' in the mini-world.

Let's just move on!

Q. :)

Quang, good one!! ;)

You put a smile on my face which was much needed believe me :( which had nothing to do with this discussion!!

First beer in Boston, if fate smiles on us all is on me!

Take care,

Ray :)
