Tommys War
A Fixture
I can't believe that it was early 2014 when I announced the news of the 1/10 bust series and here we are in November with the third in the series!
The premise of the bust range is to represent the unusual in World War One, whether that is an unusual conflict, regiment, uniform or individual. With that in mind I'm delighted to bring to you a figure that represents one of the very few (if any) figures from the Salonika campaign that lasted from 1915-18.
Inspired by the book Under the Devils Eye by Alan Wakefield and Simon Moody (Pen & Sword) I was really keen to bring a figure from this little known campaign.
The figure is a Private soldier of the 2nd Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment. I wanted to show the slouch hat as although it is remembered as really an Australian or New Zealand piece of uniform, it was actually commonly used by British regiments in warm climates and many photographs of the Salonika campaign from 1915 show this being worn.
As a member of the Gloucestershire Regiment our man is wearing not only his front cap badge (and of course in this instance worn on the side of the hat) and the rear cap badge unique to the Gloucesters which dates back to the Battle of Alexandria on 21st March 1801 when the 28th (North Gloucestershire) Regiment of Foot engaged the French from front and rear by turning the rear rank with the order: "Front rank stay as you are, rear rank about turn".
Code: TW10B03
Description: Private, 2nd Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment, Salonika 1915
Scale: 1/10 scale
Medium: resin
Sculptor: Antonio Mesegeur
Box art: Alex Varela (Iguazzu Art Studio)
Price: £30.00
Available from: www.tommyswar.com
Once again, thank you to Alex and Antonio. I really am privileged to work with not only outstanding artists like Nino, Antonio, Helder, Gunther, Juan Manuel and Alex - but to also consider them friends.
This bust is available from www.tommyswar.com
We're now planning the fourth in the series for launch in April 2014 and look forward to extending this range throughout 2015.
