U Boat 01.jpg

Earlier this month Young B. Song reached out for some help in planetfigure to finish the sculpting of this WWII U-Boat Crewman. Here is the link to the question posted by Young earlier. Again Young has brought us a beautiful rendered bust in 1/10th scale consisting of 4 resin parts.

Young has shown his appreciation by actually thanking and acknowledging Planetfigure right on the box label.

This kit comes in the traditional sturdy black box with all parts sandwiched between layers of foam with the smaller part sealed inside a clear plastic baggie. The outside clear plastic sleeve is to keep the box closed without using tape each time you open it.

Above you see the parts out of the box and bag ready for inspection. An insignia badge is included for painting and attachment to the front of a finished wooden base.

After removing the casting block from under the head you can see the dry-fitting of the head into the neck cavity as shown above. Perfect fit as usual with Young Miniature's kits.

Above is the separate cast binoculars that came sealed inside a clear baggie and attach to the front of the bust.

Above is the separate cast U-Boat insignia included in the kit. A small casting block must be removed from the underside of the insignia.

A slightly different plinth in this kit which fits in a pre-drilled hole under the bust. I like this change alot better than the old traditional plinth in previous busts.

Conclusion:
An exceptional kit from Young Miniatures with flawless surface casting and excellent detail. I like the change to the new plinth with the pre-drilled hole underneath the bust for displaying the finished bust. Highly recommended.

Hi Guy,

wonderful bust, maybe one of the best from Mr.Young(y)
Many thanks sharing:)

Dear Planeteers,

Little historical reference to this bust:

After the little badge on his cap, (sawfish-symbol) is the man to the crew of U-96 under the Commander Kapitänleutnant Heinrich Lehmann-Willenbrock (* December 11, 1911 in Bremen, † 18 April 1986 in Bremen, Germany), my hometown.

A ride of this boat has been immortalized in famous book and movie, both called "The Boat".

Another fine quality bust from one of the leading manufacturers of these quality pieces. Nice to see Planet Figure getting a mention on the box art.

I just think it’s great that various members of this forum have contributed information towards the development of this piece so that others can get the enjoyment from it.

Nice review again Guy, I am sure this one will do well in the market place.(y)

Cheers
Tommi

Wonderful figure. Too bad the back of the vest is all wrong.( Just kidding) It really looks great. And very nice of Young to give Planet members a thank you on the box. That style of vest seems to be pretty rare. I can see why it would be. Space was at such a premium on U Boats. I am sure the inflatable vests were much more desirable because they took up a lot less space.
