Magnificent Clyde Puffers. I read the Para Handy tales once a year just after Hogmanay when the Nostalgia craving kicks in.
I spent my first 10 years living in the Plantation area in Glasgow just across the Govan Road from the docks where my Grandfather was a docker. I can remember some of the last of the Puffers and being sent by my granny to the chandlers store for candles and paraffin, it was like something out of Diagon Alley in Harry Potter.
