After some help with specifics in relation to a figure of a Gendarme d’elite of Napoleons Imperial Guard, mounted trooper. In particular, can anyone advise on the following:-
Plume colour-I have seen both white and red on illustrations for troopers on the bearskin.
Collar- dark blue or red? If dark blue was it piped in red?
Rear pockets-were they horizontal or vertical?

In next post I have put some bits and pieces I’ve found so far on the tinterweb hence the confusion.

Here's the pics

for a trooper the uniform is similar to the guard grenadier. Red plume and no piping at the collar.

is quite easy find different solution for something that seems similar... reglement for trooper give red plumes... white is normally reserved to superior rank officer or for somebody attached to the head quarter, but for the gendarmes ... historex instruction recite : red plume in service dress and white plumes for major military parades or when closer to Napoleon

the best iconography is normally considered by Lucien Rousselot

below my old version for the trooper

Hi Ivo, thanks for the info and lovely work on the Figure you’ve attached. I wondered whether the differences in the reference material might be date related, changes to uniform style etc or there being slight differences between foot and mounted gendarmes uniform. Thanks again for the response.

Neal.
